Introduction to Anesthesia

What would your surgical experience be like without Anesthesia?

Not so many years ago, the skill of a surgeon was determined by how fast he could operate. With no anesthesia except a drink of liquor and several strong attendants to hold the patient down, a surgeon did not have the luxury of careful, delicate surgery. Fortunately, the science of Anesthesiology has blossomed. With better anesthesia, surgeons were able to develop better surgical procedures. With today's anesthesia, most patients can have a safe, almost pleasant surgical experience.
